Centre Stage Scripts was founded in 2008 by playwright Megan Rigoni to promote Theatre in Education. Since a child’s greatest instinct is to play, explore, imitate and create, theatre becomes an effective teaching tool. While facilitating learning, it develops a range of skills, attitudes and behaviours creating lasting memories and value as a tool for personal growth and development.
Since 2010 Centre Stage Scripts has grown to embrace Arts and Health. Whilst bringing awareness, empathy and understanding of the issues portrayed the plays nurture acceptance and empathy to those who are suffering. Illness can be very isolating and projects of this nature support the survivors and sufferers in their journey.
In recent years Centre Stage Scripts has been touring Carpe Diem mental health play. Starring leading TV actor John Wood, Carpe Diem has toured nationally. With 96 shows to date the response has been unanimous and demonstrates the powerful impact that theatre has, as a vehicle for education and positive change.
In 2019 Centre Stage Scripts are looking forward to presenting The RAIN MAKER youth mental health play. Set in a football club, THE RAIN MAKER is an exciting new arts and health project that highlights the importance of human connection and the role of mentors in the lives of young people. With the rising incidence of anxiety and depression amongst young Australians, The RAIN MAKER aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and encourage help seeking behaviours around youth mental health care.
